a year of trees
Works on Paper, 2025
These works mark a turning point in my artistic evolution.
I have long been searching for a way to visually integrate geometric precision and organic form– a reflection of how I experience the collision between nature and concept. I perceive and process the world through patterns, detail, and deep sensory engagement. This has always been central to my creative process, even before I had words for it.
After a three-month sabbatical earlier this year, I began experimenting with new ink applications, and a fresh process emerged. I call this collection-in-progress A Year of Trees– a title rooted in my daily encounters with the juniper and pine trees surrounding my home and studio. Their form, rhythm, and presence offer me sanctuary—one that inhabits the constancy and complexity in which I find solace.
Working with a range of traditional media– ink, vinyl emulsion, colored pencil, graphite, and acrylic medium– I consider each piece a translation of and meditation on my trees, and how I experience them. Their intricacies are embedded in this work, along with my own.
